Het Arresthuis

I haven't posted about hotels in a while, but I fell in love with the exterior of this Dutch hotel, Het Arresthuis, with it's stepped gable and striking black and white facade, and wanted to share.

It's built out of an old prison, and each guestroom is a prison cell.  I have to say, if the architecture is original to the prison, Dutch prison cells are spacious and have amazing ceilings.

Here's a random fact for you: I took a semester of Dutch language in college.  It's a pretty fun one to learn, I have to say.  Have any of you taken time to learn any languages you'll probably rarely, if ever, use?

The Peninsula Hotel - Tokyo

After a long weekend {Monday was a holiday in Boston} that was extraordinarily productive, I find myself intrigued by the serenity of this hotel in Tokyo.  With the woven ceiling pattern, the wooden slatted screen behind the bed and the textured wallcovering and pendant it's both complicated and relaxing.  The only thing I don't actually enjoy are the little "cameras" on each side of the bed.  I know they are reading lights but they make me feel like someone is watching the bed.

I find the repetition of lights in the lobby to be mesmerizing.

It's way out of my price range, but if I ever win the lottery I would stay here when I visit Tokyo.

Tenbosch House, Brussels

I recently spotted a mention of Tenbosch House at From the Right Bank and decided to check out the whole hotel.

I really love the exterior of the building, especially the roofline.

The interior is very simple as well, with lots of white and woods.

I am in love with the large central staircase and the scattered lights hanging down through the floors.

All the fixtures are mid-century Scandinavian and are mostly wood but I like that there are some spacey pieces, like the round white side table a few photos down, to break up the woods.

These art deco doors are beautiful.  Someday I would love a house with details like this house.  Tall ceilings, huge moldings and detailed doors.

Palihotel - LA

I haven't been to LA in forever. Longer than forever really. I don't actually remember much about it so I can't speak to Palihotel's claim that this hotel "reflects the dynamic cultural residential and commercial history of Melrose Avenue."  Maybe it does. Maybe it doesn't.

I can say that there are a few areas of this new hotel {opening February 1st} that caught my eye.

I LOVE this floor. The giant hexagonal tiles are quite nice and not often seen.

Their art wall is interesting and includes a liberal number of "instant ancestors".  This term is what I use for portraits people pick up at thrift shops and flea markets and hang on their wall {do other people use this too?}.  I'm not sure what it is called in a hotel where no one would be pretending to be related but I do like the collected look of this wall.

Again here is the floor tile {you can see it better} and I also LOVE this wall tile and the channel tufted bench looks comfy.  This is from what will be the restaurant so, while I'm assuming it will have tables in front of this bench at some point, I could totally be wrong.

Crosby Street Hotel

I've had this hotel photo in a desktop folder for a while since I wasn't sure where I got it.  Then I found out how to find an image's source {I have a tutorial for how to do this scheduled for tomorrow}.

The Crosby Street Hotel is related to the Soho Hotel that I posted about back in August.  I really love the black and white color palette of this room and the sort of relaxed glamorous feel it has to it.

I'm not really sold on the dressmaker's mannequin though.  It just looks like one more thing to squeeze around in a very tight room.  If I every stayed here, I'd probably haul it into the closet {assuming there is one} to get it out of the way.

Washington School House Hotel, Park City, Utah

At some point, perhaps over the summer, I thought I'd post a new hotel every Tuesday.  Lately I haven't been that excited about the hotels I've been seeing.  Then I saw the Washington School House Hotel in Park City, Utah.  My favorite part is the exterior, I when old buildings are put to new uses.

It's simple and because of that quite nice.  Much of the furniture is antique and French or European - seeing that velvet sofa makes me miss mine {only 5-7 more weeks!}.

The Nolitan Hotel

I really like this new little {kind of} hotel in Nolita, the part of Manhattan I usually wind up in every trip to Manhattan - sometimes on purpose and sometimes accidentally.  I have seen the Nolitan Hotel described as luxurious and maybe it is in person, from the it photos seems to be more comfy and a bit spartan which is a good combination in a hotel.

The bath tub is in the bedroom but at least there is a curtain surrounding it if you prefer.

Hotel Missoni

Today is the day the new Missoni collection comes out for Target. I've seen all the previews and find some of the items interesting but the colors seem a bit off from their normally vibrant palette {there's a LOT of flesh tone in the colors}.  I'm planning on stopping by to check things out in person since there is a pair of shoes that might be calling my name.

I thought I'd post a few pictures of the Hotel Missoni in Edinberg, I the design was by the Matteo Thun, the same person who did this hotel.

W Hotel London

I have a confession: I love disco balls. I had one in my old car for a while and it bounced the sunlight around in a way that made me very happy. My favorite burrito restaurant has one too, it totally doesn't belong but it's funny that it's there and has stayed there for years.  The fact that there are millions of disco balls all over the lobby of the W hotel in London makes me happy too.

The Soho Hotel, London

The Soho Hotel in London is has some amazing spaces.  There is tons of color and each room is different.  Here are some of my favorite areas, starting with the Events Reception.  I love that rug.

An Apartment.

It's interesting that the Firmdale Hotels seem to have dressmaker mannequins in the guestrooms.  It was called a "signature touch", but I'd be interested to know why.
